It makes sense why he would write a book about C#/XAML because these days, it's probably the tool that most developers are going to be using. Back with the 5th edition came out, writing in C or C++ was really the only option for many kinds of apps. A lot of the fundamentals covered in 5th edition is still relevant today, but it's probably easier just to look it up online.
