I found Covid very interesting because it was a potentially deadly disease, air-bourne and quite infectious... And people didn't give a fuck. Not everyone, but more than enough people for the social measures that were the only viable approach to the disease to be useless. And that was when it was novel. Now the same thing is happening but people already have their talking points ready to go about how THEY shouldn't have to do anything about anything...
- alldayeveryday 4y agoWould you support cancelling all pride parades for the time being as a measure to slow the spread of monkeypox?
- LatteLazy 4y agoI don't know, maybe? But if I did, 10% of people would go out and intentionally infect themselves on principle to demonstrate their freedumb. And 10% of people would start bricking themselves into their houses...
- alldayeveryday 4y agoSeems like a principled response. The response of the system has been instructional to behold. We saw a fairly comprehensive shutdown during covid (govt offices, most public and private businesses, cancelling of most large social events) - yet with monkeypox a complete unwillingness to even entertain the idea of shutting down super-spreader like events such as pride festivals. Goes to show - the US holds as its highest principal the freedom of people to sodomize one another.
- h2odragon 4y ago> the social measures that were the only viable approach to the disease were already useless. Imposing those, plus others that were performative and virtue signalling rather than effective, drastically reduced the amount of fucks people had available.
