I live within earshot of one of these! It's definitely a clever solution to marking the coastline, since it doesn't require electricity, lights, or much maintenance. It basically "whistles" all winter long, though. Some people may hate them, but at this point it feels like a friend or something, like birdsong or the wind in the trees.
