It’s more that compared to Relay, which is explicitly designed around preventing components using data they didn’t explicitly declare as a dependency, Apollo (along with most other GraphQL clients) doesn’t go that extra mile. Whether it’s a React component, or a just a plain old function, Relay has mechanisms to prevent the kind of problem you’re describing. It has a steep learning curve, but it’s very well considered.
