I can't escape the feeling that while seventeen bucks an hour is pretty good for a retail position, it's pretty lousy for anyone with the word "Genius" in their job title.
- cperciva 18y agoThe word "genius" falls into the "if it's in your job title, you're not it" category.
- LPTS 18y agothat's a brilliant line.
- eru 18y agoThat's the same with 'science' in the name of fields and 'democratic' for countries.
- cperciva 18y agoYes, I was thinking of the comment that "if the name of your field includes the word 'science', it's not a science" when I wrote that.
- maximilian 18y agoWhat about those who receive the MacArthur "Genius" grants. Every one that i've read about was impossibly smart and successful in science and academia. They basically get a fat sack of cash to do with what they please, so their job title is akin to "Genius".
- mhartl 18y agoThe MacArthur Foundation doesn't call them "genius" grants; it's just an informal slang term used by everyone else. The day the official award becomes "Genius Grant" is the day it ceases to be the case.
