The real problem is non-phones that are still using micro-usb and barrel plugs.
There is no excuse for any device needing less than 15W using anything but USB-C.
Above 15W, there is an added expense to add USB-PD circuitry, I would happily pay a little more for my devices to avoid harder to replace barrel plugs.

Why use a fiddly 24-pin connector with 2-way symmetry and a massive standards document of software negotiation protocols when you can use a robust 2-contact plug with infinity-symmetry requiring 0 software? I think it's sad that USB-C is now the standard DC connector.
- sudosysgen 4y agoYou can do USB-PD reception using no computers up to 5V3A. A simple resistor across two wires is enough. Also, circular connectors isn't the best thing. They tend to use up more thickness for the same amount of power. I feel USB-C is a great compromise.
