Sure, we have elections but election means little when the representatives we elect basically are run and controlled by the oligarchs and sometimes themselves are part of the oligarch ring. There is a reason most of the pew polls find the approval ratings of our members of the house of representatives below 20%. And there is noting the oligarchs want more but to distract the populace. That’s why the part of the population that embraces these idiotic woke dogma the most are the elites of NY and SF and other wealthy areas. The real issues as you say are the destruction of the working class and middle class with wage stagnation due to offshoring + cheap labor import, lack of housing, quality education and healthcare, very little infrastructure improvement since the 70s and many other things. The morally bankrupt leadership of a declining nation run by oligarchs figured they would rather fight a culture war and let everything else decay because these issues are now too endemic to fix.
