I would rather go back to the days when phone screens were under 5" so not only did they easily fit in a pocket, but I could also operate them securely with one hand, easily reaching every corner of the screen with my thumb, without having to slide the phone around in my hand.
And bring back portrait slider keyboards, and replaceable batteries (only Motorola appears to still offer these) while you're at it. I could do 10X more real work on my old smart phone than I can on any modern one.
And no, a bluetooth keyboard is no help. Unless it attaches securely and compactly to the phone, and charges itself from the phone as well, it's going to be a neglected accessory always left at home and unavailable when needed.
- jack_pp 4y agoFor a secure grip on a bigger phone I suggest a pop socket. Helps a lot
- Sakos 4y agohttps://www.amazon.com/PopSockets-Collapsible-Phones-Tablets-Nebula/dp/B01EFKSENA https://www.amazon.com/PopSockets-Collapsible-Phones-Tablets... Ohhh, that's what they're called. Seems useful, but they look ugly as sin.
- OrangeMonkey 4y agoThey are ugly, look stupid, and I personally think people who use them look stupid using them. I avoided them for the longest time until my wife cajoled me. I won't remove it now. Heck, I have a car that charges my phone if its near it - it doesnt work with the popsocket - and I've convinced myself that its for the best.
- agentwiggles 4y agoThey really are quite useful little things. I had one on my Kindle for a long time and it was a lot more pleasant to use.
- jack_pp 4y agoMine is simple matte black, it doesn't look that stupid. Can also use it as a "stand" when watching youtube.
- system2 4y agoYou can still buy iPhone SE. 4.7" display. https://www.apple.com/iphone-se/ https://www.apple.com/iphone-se/
- neallindsay 4y agoYou can also buy a 13 mini. Smaller than the SE but has a bigger screen. https://www.apple.com/iphone-13/specs/ https://www.apple.com/iphone-13/specs/
- derwiki 4y agoFrom that link, 13 mini is 5.18 inches x 2.53 inches, while the iPhone SE 1st gen is 4.87 x 2.31. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_SE_(1st_generation) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_SE_(1st_generation)
- neallindsay 4y agoYes, but the 1st gen SE was discontinued.
- retrocryptid 4y agoi'm reminded of (i think) dana carvey's character on SNL who's tag line was "in my day we didn't <fill in the blank>. AND WE LIMED IT THAT WAY." but it's clear i've become an old dad because i agree with everything you just said. replaceable batteries. audio connections that worked without having to futz around with apple car or android auto. being able to use your phone one handed. what happened to us? we were once a great people.
