Like in Shakespeare's Hamlet: «To sleep, perchance to dream - ay, there's the rub, for in this sleep of death what dreams may come...». Afterlife as "plausible" - a critical suspect. Note that in the history of 'plausible', it was also used for "nonsense, sophism, manipulation that rubes would applaud" (as opposed to "not only apparently" 'true') - the adoption was extensive (as opposed to, say, "what a sensible one would applaud") in its legitimate coverage. It has not been restricted de facto, as it may not de jure.
