Framework Tablet Assembly Manual
- Fnoord 4y agoI would use black screws (they're usually painted) for the external mount because it looks better. Really cool project, btw. And apparently thanks to them releasing the CAD files. Fantastic!
- jph 4y agoSuperb project writeup IMHO and a great showcase of Framework flexability. And if the Framework team is reading this post, I would pay you all money for an official Framework tablet.
- jeroenhd 4y agoIt's a neat idea, though I can't see myself using a tablet made of printed plastic. It takes a lot of work to get the look and feel nice and right with 3D prints and the example prints don't look very appealing to me. I'd probably turn a leftover motherboard in a small server/desktop (because the old motherboards aren't exactly cheap). Does the main board come with quality of life improvements such as a rotation sensor? Maybe something like GPS? I feel like it should be doable to print an expansion slot with the missing hardware included, perhaps inserted into the slot that's currently useless. You'd need to make your own drivers, though, and more importantly, get Windows to load them.
- aspyct 4y agoI don't have much interesting things to add to this, but I think it's awesome that framework encourages this kind of reuse. Kudos to the author of this writeup, and kudos to Framework!
- RF_Savage 4y agoThis is exactly what I was hoping for with the project. Especially after they released the mechanical cad files. Nice to see some hopes come true.
- eating555 4y agoThere are many makers here in East Asia as well. Hope we can order stuff from framework soooonn
- trexd 4y agoI bought all the parts for this last week based on the GitHub project. Looking forward to being able to use this guide!
- seltzered_ 4y agoNeat to see this, and hope it encourages framework or a third party to make a tablet. I personally switched to a tablet for better ergonomics: https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMobileComputers/comments/vzs8mm/how_long_have_you_been_using_an_ergo_mobile/ https://www.reddit.com/r/ErgoMobileComputers/comments/vzs8mm... "Connect the display to the tablet using the USB C cable" wouldn't there be some performance loss in this approach over using LVDS directly to a display?
- nazgulnarsil 4y agoInteresting subreddit. Definitely looking forward to folding portable monitors/tablets.
- rtkwe 4y agoSignificantly simpler though to where you can do it with an off the shelf component. Finding an easy to buy touch screen panel that works with the Framework would be significantly harder to source and less reliable for linking to.
- a_paddy 4y agoIs the Framework mainboard going to be to the x86_64 community what the Raspberry Pi/Compute Module has been to the ARM maker community?
- rtkwe 4y agoThey're pretty expensive to fill that niche imo.
