Some out of disgust, some after they tried to influence him towards society. In the end they left for their own safety/sanity. This would also be an explanation why his defence was a mess. Amber Heard is a similar case. Lawyers who side with his views and find defendable positions might not be at the top of the lawyer ladder. It's a working theory.
