I still have my 2009 13 inch mac book pro. I've long since swapped out the hdd for an SSD and maxed the ram to 16GB but it's perfectly usable for light tasks and as a backup machine , has a lovely keyboard too. The battery it toast though! My wife has said several times that I should replace it but I can't justify getting rid of a dependable machine.
