What happened to (G)Mail Checker Plus?

I loved this Gmail extension for Chrome. Did Google remove it from the Webstore? The one made by Google is horrible. It's extremely limited and it's also very slow to update its status when I read the e-mails. Any suggestions for another extension that checks Gmail?
