Remote workers pushed up incomes and home prices in these cities
- hunterb123 4y agoIt's not because of remote work, it's because of blue state pandemic lockdown rules, crime, high taxes, etc. Smaller towns I can see remote work pushing the numbers up, but those cities are from people moving to them for many reasons, usually because the last place sucked, take a look at where they are moving from.
- inphovore 4y agoYes, and 90% of experienced tech has the same dream… organic farm in the country, the perfect epicurean lifestyle. The pandemic and remote liberality pushed many out of urban and into rural life.
- inphovore 4y agoGeeze, quit down voting me already. Killing my meager score, why is this not true? You don’t want an epicurean organic rural farm?
- kurikuri 4y agoMaybe not entirely, but remote work accounts for half of the price increase: https://www.nber.org/papers/w30041 https://www.nber.org/papers/w30041
- bradknowles 4y agoYou forgot the real estate speculators that are trying to cash in on driving up prices into the sky, so that they can turn around and rent or sell these properties at a massive profit to the people who are moving into the area. If you could eliminate the speculators, then the house price rise would probably be a lot closer to the income rise.
- pcthrowaway 4y agoIn other words, this correlation with higher home prices and more remote workers implies it's caused by it?
- prteja11 4y agoAny recommendations for an affordable city/town with moderate weather ( high 90f and 2-3 weeks of snow per year), walkable neighborhoods and good schools in North America (US/CA)? Seattle area is decent but too pricey for our family.
