My biggest gripes with Protobufs is the language integrations. Why do I need to convert and typecheck back and forth between the proto object and the native dataclass. This was the situation in kotlin (and I believe Java) as of about a year ago though I hope it’s changed by now. We had to have several hundred lines of totally unnecessary manual type checking to validate input/output when that should be a major strength of protobufs.
