A handful of states are driving nearly all U.S. electric car adoption
- amanaplanacanal 4y agoThey seem to be saying that the biggest states have the biggest share of the EV market. Which seems… obvious? Shouldn’t they be looking at the EV share of the total vehicle market?
- MilnerRoute 4y agoThat's what I was thinking too. But for what it's worth, California still has about 10% of America's population, but 39% of its EVs. So adoption rates do seem skewed in some states. Maybe the real question is why? I'm surprised New York doesn't have anywhere near as many as California. The most interesting stat is that EV registrations last month are 2.4 times what they were 14 months ago. Wonder how that will affect these numbers going forward and in the years to come.
- floxy 4y agoCalifornia state incentives, combined with a higher concentration wealthy people who drive a lot, combined with mild winter weather (i.e. less cold weather battery range anxiety)?
- t-3 4y agoGiven the historical dominance of Tesla in the electric vehicle space, I would guess worse roads in cold areas factor in as well - you're just not going to want to drive a low-slung sports car on potholes.
- Kon-Peki 4y agoFor a very long time, manufacturers prioritized California because of their 0-emission laws. Over the years, there have been a lot of EVs that you simply couldn’t buy except in California.
