I'll take the third side of that bet: we've already so fundamentally altered "nature" to our whims, often in very destructive and short-sighted ways, that we're well past the point of trying to pretend like we're preserving any "natural" state of affairs ( https://xkcd.com/1338/ https://xkcd.com/1338/ !). The best we can hope for at this point, barring a severe and abrupt population decline, is to continue engineering our way out of this mess as best we can, with the long-term interests of humans at the forefront.
