I'm a big Dall-E fan but this is no surprise to anyone who's used it for more than 5 minutes.
It was one of the things highlighted by Google when they announced Imagen as a differentiator: https://imagen.research.google https://imagen.research.google
The article touches on this but the headline is slightly deceptive.

- andybak 4y ago(Incidentally - I want to make it clear I don't mean "Dall-E has no understanding of the elements and it's just a fancy image search/compositor" - there are results that absolutely require some semantic "understanding". It's just there are limits and spatial understanding is one of the weak spots)
