Perhaps medical treatment would be a great motivator for moon settlement as well. Like, do you suffer from chronic back pain? What about moving to a place where your spine has to support only 1/6 of your Earth weight? I think lots of conditions can become more bearable under reduced g, given the deleterious effects of partial g are not nearly as strong as those under microgravity.
- marcher 4y agoWould the G force required to get there be tolerable?
- Qem 4y agoFor a few minutes on takeoff and landing probably yes.
- wizofaus 4y agoOTOH, you're screwed if you get bored up there after a few years and wanna come back home...
- Qem 4y agoWhat if I had only a few years left anyway. I think many mobility problems of elderly people boil down to not being strong enough to properly lift and carry around your own weight anymore. Perhaps the moon could be the ultimate retirement home, where people choose to spend their final years enjoying more mobility with reduced risk from falls in lower g.
- MadcapJake 4y agoWill only work if the space elevator happens. The g's from a traditional launch would be a major issue for the elderly.
- tintor 4y agoLuna retirement home!
