I’ve seen far worse errors. In practice, I think writing good error messages is very difficult for system (or unexpected) errors because you often don’t know the context of what the program was doing before the error happened. Stack traces help approximate this context, but they are imperfect because they are a point in time. The solution to this problem is really good logging, but that is almost always hidden away from users. I’m fine with whimsy, but don’t treat your users like babies by hiding away all diagnostic information like logs.
