Visual effects artists speak out against Marvel
- ChadNauseam 4y agoA company like Disney is close to having a monopsony on visual effects. (It's not quite a monopsony because there are other studios, but I wouldn't be surprised if Disney outspends the rest of the industry combined on VFX). Normally I'm skeptical of unions. But when you're selling to a monopsony, who was free to merge with almost all of its competitors, I do see the economic justification of merging labor into one negotiating entity as well.

- ChadNauseam 4y agoGenerally I feel that unions create deadweight loss, enriching the people in the union at the cost of raising prices for everyone else (and importantly, it's an inefficient transfer because of deadweight loss)
