I get your point, but it’s funny that you used a land locked country as an example.

- capableweb 4y agoAlso because Burundi is bordering the worlds second largest freshwater lake, so not much need of a desalination device.
- 867-5309 4y agolet's not conflate 'freshwater' with 'immediately potable', unless we care little for ingesting sewage and detritus, it will usually need some amount of treatment
- devmor 4y agoWhich has absolutely nothing to do with desalination.
- kbutler 4y agoIt just means that Burundi may have neither potable freshwater, nor available saltwater for desalination, nor sufficient wealth to pay for it. Poverty is hard.
- tomc1985 4y agoBut plenty to do with distillation, which is the mechanism this solar device uses
- coffeeblack 4y agoInteresting point. Would distillation clean water from any contamination or are there common chemicals that would evaporate and then condense at similar temperatures as the water? Boiling water for a few minutes is a common way to get rid of biological contamination.
- tomc1985 4y agoI don't know, but 'distilled' water is typically sold as the most chemically pure form of water. I do know it needs to be remineralized or something, as pure distilled water is bad for you.
- p1esk 4y agopure distilled water is bad for you No, it’s not. I’ve been drinking it exclusively for the last ~20 years and have no health issues.
- stolsvik 4y agoOut of curiosity: Why?
- p1esk 4y agoBecause after you drink distilled water, tap water and most bottled water smell and taste bad.
- cvccvroomvroom 4y agoExactly. It's water. It's not bleach. If you take a multivitamin and eat a varied diet, there is no "magic" nutritional value lost. Water doesn't have to come out of a Voss water bottle or the ground to be "healthy".
- tomc1985 4y ago> If you take a multivitamin and eat a varied diet, there is no "magic" nutritional value lost. So you're substituting in the lost minerals from other sources. I don't see how that detracts from my (rather weak) argument Why do you seem to feel so strongly about distilled water?
- paledot 4y agoBecause your statement is demonstrably false and people here are nothing if not pedantic.
- soperj 4y agoIf you've ever visited a water treatment plant, it has absolutely nothing to do with distillation.
- fomine3 4y agoYes, if distillation is needed, it's too costly.
