  The price curve was in sharp decline around that time, easily making "around 2000" +/- 5 years, possible: https://jcmit.net/memoryprice.htm https://jcmit.net/memoryprice.htm For example, four years earlier, it would be >$3k. A year before that, >$6k. This was an amazing, and terrible, time to be into computers.

      Which is more evidence that "around 2000" is on the earlier side of "around".
