Google CEO calls for a more “focused” and “efficient” Google
- samizdis 4y ago> From the outside, a major source of Google's inefficiency seems to be an endless cycle of product churn and duplication, with the worst example being the 10-plus messaging apps Google has produced since Pichai took over in 2015. Our best insight into Google office politics comes from a series of previously internal-only Google comics [1] by Manu Cornet, which frequently describe launching a new product at Google as the easiest way to get promoted, compared to maintaining and improving existing products. - As an increasingly reluctant user, I can't agree strongly enough with that view. - hulitu 4y ago10 ? I only use messages for SMS. I used Talk a long time ago but now it's silent there. Maybe Google shall look at Facebook on how to make a messenger. ( Tip: don't change the name and interface every couple of years)
- mrkramer 4y agoLarry Page offered more money for WhatsApp than Facebook because he realized Google won't win mobile messaging wars but WhatsApp guys decided to go with Facebook. Btw Facebook was also afraid of not winning mobile messaging that's why they bought WhatsApp. The same story was with Instagram but that time the fear was they won't win mobile photos market.
- mrkramer 4y agoComics is amazing! Thx for sharing.
- rurp 4y agoThat comic strip is great! I experience #375 almost every time I use Youtube. https://goomics.net/375/ https://goomics.net/375/
- freediver 4y ago> What would help you work with greater clarity and efficiency to serve our users and customers? It is insanely hard to be the CEO of a company for which users and customers are not only different, but serving both is impossible without conflict of inteest.
- rkagerer 4y agoFocus? Google? Hah! This got a giant belly-laugh.
- sg47 4y agoBe more focused at creating products that we'll sunset a year from now.
