Funds sought for first submarine cable to Antarctica
- marssaxman 4y agoI had always heard that an undersea cable to Antarctica would be impractical due to seafloor scouring from winter ice. If that was true, I wonder what the engineers have come up with to get around it. Interesting that this cable will connect to the American base in MacMurdo rather than one of the Chilean bases closer to home on the Antarctic peninsula. I wonder if this was an economic or a practical decision; operating a cable-laying ship across the Drake Passage seems like it might be a challenge.
