Do you have any sources for utility scale batteries with reasonable cost? The biggest I know of are in Australia and are extremely expensive, and provide such little reserve they are basically a rounding error.
- MisterMower 4y agoNot to mention they employ batteries fabricated with toxic chemicals. It’s going to be tragic watching folks try to figure out how to safely dispose of these batteries 20 years from now. Not to mention the carbon that will be emitted to make them in the first place.
- nl 4y agoLithium Ion batteries are recyclable and the fact that not many are yet is mostly because of infrastructure rather than any technical issue: https://cen.acs.org/materials/energy-storage/time-serious-recycling-lithium/97/i28 https://cen.acs.org/materials/energy-storage/time-serious-re... This has improved since 2019 (when that article was written) and now all Tesla batteries are recycled[1][2]. - brutusborn 4y agoNeometals im Australia also have leading edge recyling tech, at least leading Western companies.
- ncmncm 4y agoConcern trolling not welcome here.
- tcfhgj 4y agoAre you talking about lithium batteries? Why on earth?
- brutusborn 4y agoNot specifically. Energy storage?
- tcfhgj 4y agoThe cheapest storage of energy is gas cavernes underground
- Zanfa 4y agoThis seems extremely constrained by geology, even more than hydro. And what sort of gas would you be storing there?
- tcfhgj 4y agoHydrogen, methane
- brutusborn 4y agoAgain, any sources? I know of some gas storage caverns but they didn't come cheap.
