I've been thinking it's time to start moving away from that damn site.
- If I actually want to start conversations, I get a lot more comments on HN or Reddit
- When I was a job searcher, the idea of just being able to apply from my profile was really cool. Except every job just re-directed you to some form that wanted you to upload a resume anyway.
- Of the handful of potential clients who have found me there, none have ended up signing a contract. Better odds just talking on random slack channels.
- It's getting more and more cringe. Call me a prude but it's really tacky when people post photos of stuff like their wife and their baby asleep on the couch. Do you really want to post your families intimate moments to get likes on a "professional" social network?
- If I'm honest with myself I realise that I just replaced my addiction to one blue site (FB) with another.
Anyway add me on LinkedIn!! https://www.linkedin.com/in/lewisandrewcampbell/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/lewisandrewcampbell/
- sylens 4y agoYou haven’t seen LinkedIn cringe until you’ve worked in sales or sales adjacent positions. The amount of of hubris some of these people have is incredible
- LAC-Tech 4y agoI actually get a fair amount of sales content on my feed, and I have to say - tech is catching up fast in the cringe department.
- dereg 4y agoLinkedIn cringe is arguably worse in non-sales areas. Salespeople understand they're in the Matrix. Non-salespeople don't realize they're sucked up into this awkward world. I don't consider myself to be particularly cynical, which is why it surprises me that I cannot shake off the loss of respect I feel for people I once respected after I see one of their linkedin posts on the odd day in the odd month that I do log in.
- aml183 4y agoBut if you aren't technical, LinkedIn is still the best place to engage. I sell media advertising and LinkedIn is by far the best social media platform. It's also the best social media platform for our media organization because we are looking for B2B audience. The real solution is building a B2B social media network. But that is very very hard to do.
- brailsafe 4y agoTo engage in what way and with who?
- ksec 4y agoPotential customers. ( From an B2B perspective)
- altdataseller 4y agoHow do you engage with them? The vast majority of people ignore my messages there.
- beckingz 4y agoLike an online chamber of commerce.
