> A few days after Mario Draghi confirmed his resignation as prime minister on 21 July, members and leaders of the coalition began preparing their electoral campaign by posting on Twitter news of crimes and rapes allegedly committed by “fake refugees” and “illegal immigrants”. Tackling immigration and tightening national security are among the coalition’s priorities.
But those didn't cause outrage? Nor the case where a priest was killed by the same immigrant he was helping [1]? Only this one? Where the perpetrator is already under arrest? And those other crimes and murders are just random acts, unconnected to any political party or rhetoric, while this one has a straight line connecting it to anti-immigration parties?
Sensationalizing random acts of violence caught on camera is something I'd expect from a rag like the Daily Mail, not a supposedly respectable news source like The Guardian.

- theGeatZhopa 4y agoIt's not sensationalizing. It's an act of violence that happened because of racism and pure hate and xenophobia. What's more in it, no one helped, no one said stop. That's the outrageous, on my eyes.
- AinderS 4y agoIf you watch the video, they do say stop (in Italian). And the attack itself looks easy to mistake for non-fatal from afar. Here is a similar attack, with far more people around, where also nobody stops the attacker: https://twitter.com/Unashamed366/status/1553141295509544963 https://twitter.com/Unashamed366/status/1553141295509544963 But the Guardian didn't report on this one, and it's not cause for national outrage. And if we move beyond anecdote, in all their MeToo fury, they never reported that despite being only 10% of the population [1], immigrants commit 42% of all rapes in Italy [2] - you are free to find what the figures for homicide look like. Do you really think that because (most) news don't report it, such attacks don't happen? Just how easy to manipulate can you be? - rvz 4y agoThat is the problem. It doesn't fit their narrative, which is why they do not report it, hence why we need multiple sources like this video, beyond the Guardian to see past the bias they have on their reporting. The Guardian is the equivalent to the Daily Mail but for the liberal left-leaning readers, and I expect the Guardian and other so-called news sources to deliver a single side of the story. They won't ever cover all sources since they have an obvious strong bias unfortunately. So yes, as a result tons of readers, outsiders, etc get easily manipulated into their lies and deception.
- thomassmith65 4y agoWell, fascist politicians will certainly address crime by immigrants. Personally I'd rather have the immigration than the reemergence of fascism, but Italy is not my country of residence, so hey, not my problem!
