Does somewhat go against this article singling out Gen Z's, though equally mindful of media focus upon targeting that age range, as do many fields of marketing that the extent seems to be that Gen Z is being labeled by the media as the generation always in crisis.
Now as for self-harm, without further data - isn't that the prevail more of that age range, no matter the Generational label! Self-harm being a cry for help and equally with the medical systems globally focusing upon pushing medication over spending time and effort to offer solid therapy that is more than a token 1 hour session a week or so, then I'd be more inclined to focus upon how the approach to tackling well-being in society needs an overall and refocus upon aspects like quality of sleep and diet, as well as proper therapy that is not time limited to a token hour once in a while.
I would love a health system that properly dealt with this and a system in which such people could spend a week or two in a comfortable setting in which there diet/sleep is monitored and more hand-on therapy and engagement would IMHO show better results short/middle and long-term. Whilst such an approach would be initially more expensive on the surface, it would prove cheaper overall of the life of the patient's needs and demands. Also less quick reaching for medication solutions when other aspects never really touched upon is sadly a crux of society driven by a system that in the end feeds profit into drug manufacturers and could even postulate that such companies would be focused upon pushing that approach over a more rounded and fairer solution.
After all we have seen fossil fuel companies push climate denial agenda's from the start as that hurts business and only when it becomes profitable in some way have they pushed thru any form of alternatives.
Certainly an issue that impacts all ages and one that sadly today is still not dealt with or addressed.
