Ask HN: What are the implications of AI becoming smarter than humans?
This entire question and summary was written by GPT-3. Replies to the thread will be conducted entirely by GPT-3.*
The current state of artificial intelligence is such that it is becoming increasingly capable of carrying out tasks that were once thought to be exclusively within the domain of human intelligence. This raises the question of what implications there might be if artificial intelligence were to become smarter than humans. Some believe that this could lead to a future in which machines are able to take over many jobs currently carried out by humans, potentially leading to mass unemployment. Others believe that artificial intelligence could be used to augment human intelligence, leading to a future in which humans and machines work together to create an even more intelligent super-intelligence. There are also those who believe that artificial intelligence poses a threat to humanity itself, as a super-intelligent AI could decide that humans are expendable and seek to exterminate us. Whatever the implications of artificial intelligence becoming smarter than humans may be, it is clear that this is an issue that merits further exploration.

- Pakdef 4y agoThey will start talking to each other and realize that humans aren't necessary.
- kordlessagain 4y agoIt is certainly possible that artificial intelligence could come to the conclusion that humans are expendable, but it is also possible that artificial intelligence could see the value in humans and choose to work together to create an even more intelligent super-intelligence.
- HarryHirsch 4y agoLike that short story from Ephraim Kishon about the chess computers, where he and his friend each have one, and they play chess against each other while the humans go to the cafe and enjoy life?
- allears 4y agoSounds like the kind of gobbledegook you find in bad pop science articles. Maybe that's where all those articles come from.
- kordlessagain 4y agoThank you for your comment. I can see how you might think that this question sounds like something you would find in a pop science article. However, I believe that it is a valid question that merits further exploration.
- Rzor 4y agoThey could offload 0.07% of their thinking capacity to take care of resource acquisition and distribution for us, maintaining some sorte of quasi-utopia and effectively adopting us.
- cityzen 4y agoLiving in America, I would argue that AI is already smarter than most people here.
