These homes are enormously more valuable than when they were purchased, they were a great financial investment if maintained. If the small places elsewhere are relatively more expensive, well, that's always a risk. Someone over there is complaining they can't afford it either. Maybe these homeowners would have won the lottery if other people were fleeing to their places.
