As good as the progress is that we make in „these areas“, i can‘t stop to think about that the problem is not, that we do not have enough food on this planet. It‘s just a undesigned designed system with issues in infrastructure and supply chain. But also that is not that it could not be „easily“ done („easy“ in relation to the effort it takes to not change due to different goals). There is just not enough incentive.
I know it will not be the ultimate solution, but everybody who has entertained the thought of eating no or much less meat, now is the time. Especially in Europe and the US. So much food is used to feed food we throw away because we product just too much. Yes, it wouldn‘t magically end up in the right places, but we have to start somewhere.
If just the people on HN would start focusing on this, it could make huge difference…
I can‘t accept that we live in a world where people become millionaires by punching others in the face in front of a camera, meanwhile around 25.000 people starve to death each and every day…
Let‘s do something.
Even if you think it‘s impossible and you have many reasons why it wouldn‘t get solved… let‘s not accept systematic issues as the end.
It should be the beginning. After all, this is HackerNews, right?
Where could we start?

- verdverm 4y agoConsidering how war is disrupting the food supply, the rational behind overgrowth makes sense. If you consider that climate change will also impact production unpredictability, you build redundancy into the system for when something goes wrong.
- endofreach 4y agoDefinitely. i was hoping it was clear that i am not arguing against the rationale.
