StackOverflow down during work hours, dev teams forced to take the day off
- superchroma 4y agoI sure hope not. I wouldn't be very pleased if my software team was completely high and dry without stack exchange.
- khbrendle93 4y agohah yes exactly. today is just the type of day when you realize who relies on it
- johncoltrane 4y agoI experienced this first hand at a previous job several years ago. We were all relatively capable, some more than others, so we didn't really _depend_ on SO 100%, but the disruption affected each one of us, we talked about it to others and soon enough it was the full open space that was down. It's not that we couldn't do anything without SO but that a critical part of our work environment was affecting the rest. Kind of like a bullwhip effect.
- superchroma 4y agothat's alarming. Personally, I have enough to do that even if I'm sidelined on a problem due to not being able to get an answer, I can still do other work.
- ipaddr 4y agoThe only thing that takes down a day these days is github and perhaps npm if you live in that ecosystem
- ShadyDeveloper 4y agoWhy would Github take down a day? The whole point of git is that it's a decentralized VCS. If Github goes down, you lose the actions, that sucks. But anybody in the office can make their clone of the repo into a remote that you can all share for the rest of the day. Or just keep your stuff on a local branch and push tomorrow.
- dalmo3 4y agoIssues. As a frontend dev if I'm stuck at something I'm 10x more likely to find relevant info in gh issues than on SO.
