"Full stack"
(except when referring to someone who can do everything from CPU design and assembly programming right up to UI work)
- TT-392 4y agoI am an EE, that works with microcontrollers on a daily basis. I know some html I play around with sdl and ncurses a bit, I can do some internet stuff. I am clearly a full stack dev right?
- TT-392 4y agoOh, and I designed an UI for my smartwatch OS. For which I wrote everything from the ground up.
- tenebrisalietum 4y agoDo you have a microservices-based REST API with graphical frontend (web and Electron based) deployed/available on redundant cloud providers enabling secured, direct interaction with high- and low-level operations of your microcontrollers, such as environmental data gathering, software/firmware deployment and updates? That's a fuller stack. I probably missed some things.
- manuelabeledo 4y ago"Full stack" usually means "I'm proficient with React, so why wouldn't I be on Node?".
- yoz-y 4y agoThey need to be able to grind silicon and make wafers in a pressure pot too. Full stack means you can build a web based app alone, that involves databases, backend, server management (this one is arguable), frontend development and design. No need to go lower really.

- munch117 4y agoI always thought "stack" referred to just the web development stack, meaning someone who can write both frontend and backend code. The impression I get from someone using this expression is that the speaker is oblivious to other kinds of software.
- rytill 4y agoFull-stack means you can contribute to code pretty much anywhere in the product’s stack. Why would you have to do CPU design and assembly programming to contribute to an average software product?
