It’s surprising how many people outside of the British and Irish isles still think the Republic is constituent to the UK. As if it never moved passed it’s Free State period.
Anecdotally: I’ve met Germans, Canadians, Australians, Americans, etc that were surprised to learn it’s completely sovereign.
