Yes, I want to ignore them also. I know the people who want to snoop in can snoop in irrespective. Its just a matter of how easy it is.
Every update is just more trackers and ads.
- weird-eye-issue 4y agoIt's not just about snooping. It's also other things like being part of a botnet that's scanning for vulnerabilities or actively hacking or DDOSing or being used in a proxy network
- slimsag 4y agoWhen users are used to updates screwing them over generally, it's not a surprise that we start to find people who don't want to update and disregard the security entirely.
- judge2020 4y agoiOS doesn't seem to have this problem, reaching "89% of all devices introduced in the last four years use iOS 15"[0]. iOS generally is less at-risk for these botnet issues since any botnet needs to be actively embedded within a popular app-store-installed app, especially if it wants to run expensive background tasks hitting HTTP endpoints. To add, since apps can't JIT, the apps can't RCE a jailbreak that would allow full system compromise, besides if the exploit chain is possible via a WebKit exploit (which is exceedingly rare[1]). 0: https://developer.apple.com/support/app-store/ https://developer.apple.com/support/app-store/ 1: https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/TotallyNotSpyware https://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/TotallyNotSpyware
- 28304283409234 4y agoThat's because iPhone consumers are used to being screwed over.
- Gigachad 4y agoUsers should probably buy devices from better venders. I certainly don’t worry about any negatives from an iOS update
- weird-eye-issue 4y agoNo issues with Google Pixel updates too
- fauigerzigerk 4y ago>I certainly don’t worry about any negatives from an iOS update Really? I always have issues after iOS upgrades, mostly related to iCloud. But I still update ASAP because as soon as a new iOS version is released, the old version causes even more iCloud problems. Apple and the whole iOS ecosystem just doesn't tolerate old versions (which is mostly a good thing but also has some downsides)
- samstave 4y agoiOS updates are frustrating because you never know what privacy toggles get un-toggled. Further, there are time when I DONT want my devices to update. Device management in iCloud is utterly poor, I should be able to manage all my privacy settings for all my iOS devices in FUCKING iCLOUD!
- wvenable 4y agoYou have Samsung device and it's just not true at all that updates add more trackers and ads.
- worthless-trash 4y agoI've only had improvements for my note 10, wish i knew what OP was talking about.
- wvenable 4y agoI have a few Samsung devices and I'm more than happy with the performance and new features with the updates. It just keeps getting better.
- happymellon 4y agoMy S10 still gets updates. I've never actually noticed any difference after almost all of the updates since I purchased it. I'm assuming they either have all been security, "stability" or features that Samsung already had provided in their fork.
- yjftsjthsd-h 4y agoI don't know whether it's correlated with updates, but that's a thing that has happened: https://slashdot.org/story/20/07/01/196224/ads-are-taking-over-samsungs-galaxy-smartphones https://slashdot.org/story/20/07/01/196224/ads-are-taking-ov...
- wvenable 4y agoIt's not correlated with updates. Ironically Samsung Health used to have a little "Ad" banner at the top but after some update that is gone now.
