Ask HN: High Paying Programming Jobs
Which high paying programming skill has reasonably good demand? Blockchain, ML/AI, quantum computing, AR/VR (Holo Lens)..?
- beckingz 4y agoAll of them. regular application development is the easier to get though.
- sainib 4y agoAgreed. However, commoditized skill pays less. I have done frontend, backend (several programming languages) distributed data processing, cloud, cybersec (blue team), DevOps etc. I am looking for areas that pay higher than 150 an hour. Appreciate the response
- PragmaticPulp 4y agoHigh paying jobs are more about going to the right companies in the right industry and delivering quality results. A lot of the high paying jobs right now aren’t necessarily in the most buzzword-heavy job descriptions. Chasing arbitrary buzzwords alone doesn’t really career results. It takes more than a few programming skills to make a good career developer.
- sainib 4y agoI've been doing tech for 23 years and done many diff things. just looking to get different perspectives. Newer tech always pays higher as long as there's enough adoption but not enough supply.
- duped 4y agoYou have the wrong idea. It's not skills that pay, it's companies. Learn to crush the interview circuit for the companies paying 300k+. There aren't that many.
- sainib 4y agoThanks duped. Your answer gives me a different angle to think about. Could you expand on "crush the interview circuit"?
- duped 4y agoThere are a handful of companies that pay exceedingly well (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, Netflix, Uber, and a handful of others). Their hiring and interview practices are well documented across the internet. The website levels.fyi will give you some insight into which companies can afford the rates you're talking about.
- Zaheer 4y agoWithin any skillset you can typically reach the highest paying jobs. Many of them hire generalists.
