- blueflow 4y agoI used to contribute to FOSS, but i left because of a specific kind of people. Some people that have visions about making FOSS better, but are uncompromising and unagreeable on their methods. And are not afraid of shaming people they disagree with. Imagine my face when i saw that all (not exaggerating, ALL of them) FOSS contributors who harassed me out also signed the RMS removal letter. I think the public shaming and witch hunt thing is some kind of kink of them and they are doing much more harm to FOSS then RMS ever will. This is why i signed the support letter and donated to the FSF. Seeing these peoples reaction to RMS being reinstated instilled warmth and Schadenfreude into my heart.
- robert_foss 4y agoI'm genuinely sorry you had a bad time. People of every background feeling welcome and being able to contribute is what it is all about. RMS being reinstated was simply not a smart move, I think it does great harm to FSF. For example, when FSFE reached out to me they explicitly mentioned distancing themselves from FSF due to Stallman.
- blueflow 4y ago> People of every background feeling welcome and being able to contribute is what it is all about. This is repeated all over and over again, but this isn't more than a hollow phrase if the community is not able to handle conflicts without drama and witch hunts. Even the best code of conduct is not able to make up for a lack of social skills. And showing off your inclusiveness is still... showing off. It will only impress other self-promoters. The FSFE is not representative of FOSS, either. I'm dissatisfied with the general situation, but i'm not able to change it, either.
