That means they have not given up on the whole direction of on-device image scanning, the idea of clandestinely reporting your device images [1], that they (temporarily) abandoned due to a backlash. There must be an internal censorship struggle within Apple, and it's unclear which group will win. I personally skipped their M1 laptops when the news of [1] came out. Was waiting for M2 14" pro after they abandoned it, but now will probably go with an XPS13

- Sporktacular 4y agoNo, it doesn't not mean that. Only the images being sent, from a child's phone, with the optional feature turned on, are scanned and when approved for that message, blurred. There is nothing about clandestinely reporting your images to anyone. Just read the article.
