Show HN: SDWM – Simple Dynamic Window Manager for Windows
- mikedelago 4y agoIf I wanted a window manager similar to Linux's options, I'd probably just use Linux. It's a shame that some programs that people need only support Windows
- hexomancer 4y agoI mean there are a lot of people (me included) that have to use windows because of program exclusivity (e.g. visual studio, adobe suite, AutoCAD, etc.). Usually switching to linux is not an option in these scenarios.
- RexM 4y agoI’ve been really liking Rider from JetBrains as a Visual Studio replacement. I’m still working with some legacy .NET Framework 4.8 (Windows only) code, so I still haven’t been able to switch to linux. If you’re on .NET Core, give it a shot.
- goodburb 4y agoWorking scrolling speed adjustment, TouchPad calibration, scrolling and gesture options, random wake from sleep issues on certain hardware, Wayland external display issues, finicky video hardware acceleration with browsers, wine/proton crashes, Bluetooth AAC, power savings with the latest CPU/SoCs. Few issues with dependcies and versions necessates a Linux VM for development anyways.
- lostmsu 4y agoThese days add to that (on the Windows side) great screen recording API with native support for hardware codecs (personal thingie), perfect per-monitor DPI scaling, stable upgrades that don't make me reconfigure software sources and don't break the system, hassle-free TPM support for full disk encryption, easy to understand UI for LVM-like storage management (e.g. Storage Spaces), and a simple email client that does not make my eyes bleed.
- goodburb 4y agoFractional scaling is also GPU accelerated (for battery life) on Windows compared to Wayland/Xorg in which only scaling in multiple is accelerated so far, there is some progress with Plasma (Neon Dev) for single monitor only.
- encryptluks2 4y agoI'm really not impressed. Windows snapping was supposed to be similar to a tiling Window manager, but I can't even get the supposed keyboard shortcuts working. Had Windows just taken something similar to i3's defaults and enabled snapping functionality it would have been pretty awesome.
