Okay, we all agree this is not what happened (and we have confirmation from project leads in this very thread) and I think we know what happened with GNOME but what happened with KDE? Did KDE just fail on accident, just completely coincidentally at the same time? I was always a GNOME fan myself, so I never really followed KDE. Does anyone know the story there?
- toyg 4y agoThey had to move to Qt4, and took the chance to make some big changes - in the name of "convergence", which was a shared buzzword back then. They generated a lot of hype, then shipped a 4.0 release that was very half-baked. Whether that was always the plan or not, the public image of the project never fully recovered.
