What happens when you send 1 DAI
- smoldesu 4y ago> if you can escape the fuzz, the price, the monkeys in JPEGs, the ponzis, the rugpulls, the thefts, there's still value in here. This is no "magic" internet money. There's real math, cryptography and computer science going. Being open source, you can see every single piece moving. You can almost touch them. No matter the day nor the time. No matter who you are. No matter where you come from. What a rousing note to end on. Unfortunately, I think that's the "trap" that leads to smart people (and ostensibly, midwits) throwing their whole life into cryptocurrency. Individual components of it look really cool; the network structure, the decentralized principles, the open design and all those neat mathematical proofs! Cryptocurrency is nerd porn, so developers invariably go into 'Pepe Le Pew' mode as soon as someone brings up decentralization and databases in the same conversation. Obviously, the problem is that all of this is horribly complex and I skipped through ~80% of this article because I still had no idea what a DAI was, much less why I would use it or why Vitalik wants one. It just goes to show that this whole "API for money" dream has failed horribly, and it's nothing but a microcosm of our own societal issues. Yes, there's the apes and the rug pulls on one side of the room, but the other side is equally as saddening, with rent-collectors and predatory investors being ushered in by socially estranged developers. It's a lawless no-mans-land, and not even in the way that appeals to my libertarian side.
