Solo creators on YT haven't been profitable in almost a decade. There was a brief period around 2010 where you could make money alone just from AdSense. But this quickly ended once it became a viable business venture, and production companies started up that focused solely on YouTube. As the production process formalized, income shifted from ads to sponsorships, merchandise, and external business ventures. YouTube now pays out significantly less, because they know the full time YouTubers can make money through other channels besides AdSense. Even if you make a million view video every week, it's barely equatable to an entry level career. If this article was written in 2012, the numbers may be different.
