Not sure I agree with this. The problem is I don’t know what I’ll need later until I need it… old messages from months or years ago that I never expected to need have saved me multiple times for a variety of reasons by now. It’s also awkward to try to herd a conversation partner from chat to email at some arbitrary point when you think the conversation is veering in a direction where preservation is important.
