Show HN: Quarter Life List – Stories and Resource to find your purpose
- tchock23 4y agoGood resource, but as a heads up your rotating headline text pushes content down randomly on mobile, making for an annoying reading experience on the homepage.
- z5h 4y agoThere’s no reason to believe that the universe bestows a “purpose” on each (or any) individual. I suppose it might be a comforting delusion/narrative (while reality aligns with the delusion). It was for me for a time. Better to accept that there is no purpose. Do what you like, or what makes you money, or what helps others, or what offers flexibility, but please stop worrying if the thing you are doing is THE THING or not.
- jmathai 4y agoI've always viewed "purpose" as a very personal thing that I get to determine. My purpose has changed throughout my life and probably at quarter centuries (and not just mid-life). I think the point of this exercise is to reevaluate your purpose to make sure you're investing your time, energy and resources into something that's still important to you. It's very easy to get caught up in an outdated purpose or, worse, someone else's purpose for your life.
- ausbah 4y agoNot a huge fan of resources like this. I think they can be good motivators and may contain some good lessons or tools you can adapt to your own journey, but they stink selection bias, too many are shams by people whose only "success" is telling people how to be successful (see Tony Robbinson), and don't account for the large amount of variance that can be found in paths to success (there are many ways to get there but these can make it seem like there are only a few. Also the whole mantra of "finding" success like others have mentioned isn't super accurate in my book either. I'd label it more as "making" since the only way of getting there is through work.
- fleetwoodsnack 4y agoNoteworthy exclusion of religious, philosophical, historical, or fictional texts. In some sense, much of human wisdom. What is the selection criteria and why are the ten current selections particularly relevant to 25-or-so year olds?
