That the CTO was the one doing the code review tells me either: the company is incredibly small, or the CTO has a major ego problem (or, perhaps, you are so "senior" only the CTO could possibly understand what you did (seems quite unlikely, though)) Unless it was a very small company, be thankful you escaped the hell hole it would be :)
