I stopped reading after this. There is no mention whether the cost means a monthly rental price or a purchase price, or if the considered resident's salary is monthly or annual, gross or net.
Buying a house that costs 44x my monthly gross salary is nothing unusual and well below bank mortgage limits. Renting an apartment that costs 44x my annual salary per month makes no sense.
Journalists should put more effort into data quality and focus less on the sensational part. Unfortunately, the latter sells better.
