Are you an American citizen?
Can you do this if you are?
If I say... just wanted to move to Berlin; how would I do it? How do you get paid? How do the taxes work?
- chimeracoder 15y agoThe US is the only country (that I know of) that requires its citizens to pay taxes earned abroad, even if living abroad full-time. That's one thing to keep in mind - you'll likely be paying the additional taxes.

- redstripe 15y agoAre you sure? I think the requirement may be that you have to file a tax return even if you live abroad.
- sneak 15y agoThey give tax deductions both for a) paying foreign taxes and b) being physically absent from the country. Read about the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion here: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,,id=97130,00.html http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/international/article/0,...
- danssig 15y agoEverywhere else doesn't even make you file and a bill has already been introduced to take away these exemptions (they offensively claim they can "save" money by removing these exemptions).
- chimeracoder 15y agoAlso, I believe that there's some setup so that the credit is one-way, or you have to pay the larger of the two. In any case, it usually ends up being that you pay no less in taxes to the US, and then you may get taxed for the foreign country on top of that.
