SSDs are produced in China, most things are these days, and the Chinese Communist Party certainly won't start taxing carbon..
So you could only add the tax to SSDs when they are sold in a country where the government supports such taxes putting said countries at a competitive disadvantage in a globalized economy.
Furthermore how are you going to get an honest assessment of the carbon footprint of their products out of the Chinese to begin with?

- parineum 4y agoPlace a carbon import tariff on anything imported without a carbon tax already imposed. Make that tariff 110% estimate of carbon production.
- fomine3 4y agoCurrently NAND flash is mainly made in Korea (Samsung, Hynix), Japan(Kioxia & WD), and the US(Micron, Intel but forgot the new name), isn't it? Though some fabs by them are in China or Singapore.
