In central Florida, there are now entire rent-only single-family home communities. Yes, entire neighborhoods are owned by investors similar to apartment complexes. Apparently, renters will eventually have the right to be able to purchase the home, but until that point they won’t be enjoying any of the benefits of home ownership and in the end it will be costlier to convert that home to ownership, while the developer rakes in the cash. This is a very troubling trend that I believe could be very harmful to the housing market.
